Wearable Art Unisex T-Shirt (Microbes) | Digital Reproduction of Unique Textile Design

The image on this T-shirt is taken from a pure silk ikat that was made in Uzbekistan. The feathery edges of the design can be seen oriented with the warp (or vertical) yarns which were first tie dyed by hand to establish the basic ikat design. This painstaking process of tie dying, untying, retying, redying, and again untying was repeated for each color before being mounted onto a narrow loom. Following that, the plain weft (or horizontal) yarns were finally interwoven to produce the body of the cloth. This piece has the colorful, almost psychedelic, imagery that is distinctive of ikats from Uzbekistan. This art form from Central Asia was almost lost during the period when the Central Asian Republics were part of the old Soviet Union, but it has seen a limited comeback in recent years.

This is a relaxed fit, garment-dyed T-shirt that feels lived-in from the first wear.
